10 November 2009: Within the framework of the Bonn Dialogues, the sixth public symposium on Global Environmental Change deals with the topic of energy and food security. “Fuel vs. Food” is a major debate surrounding bio-energy production – particularly after the food crisis of the past years. In its third year, the Bonn Dialogues Series with leading experts from science, politics and the media will take place at Deutsche Welle in Bonn.

Press Release for the 5th Bonn Dialogues: Public Event on how to Learn to Live with Risk Print E-mail

Renowned experts show at a public event the role of education in reducing risks at the 5th Bonn Dialogues Event in Bonn.

The event takes place 1st April 6:30 p.m. at the Deutsche Post Tower, Bonn. The public symposium, open to public, will show the role of education in dealing with the world's growing environmental hazards.

The goal of the event is to explain environmental risks and disasters. People need to learn to live with risks rather than try to control them. Acknowledging the risks surrounding while knowing how to adapt and respond to them seems to be the answer.

Die neu ins Leben gerufene “Bonn Dialogues” Serie geht in die zweite Runde. Nach einer sehr erfolgreichen ersten Veranstaltung im April 2007 über den Klimawandel, konzentriert sich die Serie nun auf die Auswirkungen des Umweltwandels. Wissenschaftler, Politiker und Vertreter der Presse, insbesondere der Chefredakteur des National Geographic Deutschland werden am 27 November, 18 Uhr, Ihre Positionen in einer öffentlichen Podiumsdiskussion in der Deutschen Welle präsentieren. Eine Diskussion mit dem regionalen Publikum soll im Anschluss erfolgen.

Press Release for the 2nd Bonn Dialogues: The Impacts of Environmental Change Discussed in Bonn Print E-mail
The newly established Bonn Dialogues Series goes into the 2nd round. After a very successful first meeting in April 2007 on climate change, whether to control, adapt or flee; the organizers concentrate now on the impacts of environmental change and how the melting ice can change human society and biodiversity. Scientists as well as representatives form Federal Ministries and the chief editor from National Geographic will present their views to the Bonn audience at Deutsche Welle.

Press Release for the General Concept Note on the Event Series - 31 July 2007 Print E-mail
The German Committee for Disaster Reduction (DKKV), the International Human Dimensions Programme on Global Environmental Change (IHDP) and the United Nations University Institute for Environment and Human Security (UNU-EHS) in partnership with the City of Bonn and Deutsche Welle jointly organize a series of workshops twice a year called "Bonn Dialogues on Global Environmental Change". The series focus on substantive issues related to anthropogenic drivers and consequences of Global Environmental Change and Human Security. Sector specific themes, such as climate, water, energy, or food will be addressed in a cross-cutting manner. The topics of these biannual workshops, which take place every spring and autumn and include both a closed expert roundtable as well as an open public lecture, are under the three overarching themes of vulnerability, adaptation and resilience.
