"Bonn Dialogues on Global Environmental Change"We are happy to introduce the "Bonn Dialogues on Global Environmental Change". The dialogues are a series of events focusing on substantive issues related to anthropogenic drivers and consequences of Global Environmental Change and Human Security - addressing in a cross-cutting manner sector specific themes such as climate, water, energy, or food.
The kick-off event entitled “Climate Change: Control, Adapt or Flee?” took place on 17 April 2007. The event featured a closed day session of invited experts and a public panel discussion in the evening. The panel comprised a roundtable discussion of high-ranking representatives from science, politics and the private sector, who discuss possible reactions to the impacts of expected climate change. The evening session took place at neighboring Deutsche Welle, where the outcomes of the round table panel had been presented and discussed with the audience. The Dialogue Series aims to:
· raise public awareness of different aspects of Global Environmental Change; · serve as a forum for interdisciplinary multi-stakeholder exchanges of views; · contribute to different scientific, political and public discourses; and · present Bonn as a host of various organizations dealing with cooperation, sustainable development and environmental concerns. The Bonn Dialogues Series takes place twice a year. It is jointly organized by the International Human Dimensions Programme on Global Environmental Change (IHDP), together with the United Nations University Institute for Environment and Human Security (UNU-EHS), and the German Committee for Disaster Reduction (DKKV) in partnership with the City of Bonn. Furthermore, Bonn Dialogues is supported by the Deutsche Welle, the European Union and the federal government of North Rhine-Westphalia.
