Adaptation – a Good Investment for the Future  This statement made by Oran Young, one of four panelists at the public event,summarizes very well the tenor of the evening discussions. Over 100 visitors from the Bonn region filled the hall at Deutsche Welle to listen to the experts` opinions about climate change. The kick-off event of the Bonn Dialogues on Global Environmental Change proved to be a complete success. After a fruitful closed expert meeting in the morning a public evening session took place at neighboring Deutsche Welle, where the outcomes of the expert meeting were presented and discussed with the interested audience.

Climate Change: Control, Adapt or Flee? Bonn, 17 April 2007, UN-Campus “Langer Eugen”  Over 20 experts from all over the world came to Langer Eugen to talk about the role of science regarding climate change. After 6 hours of productive discussions the participants commonly agreed, that changes have to be made now, while there is still time to act.
The event was opened up with a short introduction by the co-organizers to stimulate discussion on the three possible reactions to climate change: mitigation (control); adaptation; and migration (flee). |
