  QUESTIONS RELATED TO KEY CHALLENGES

  • What are the major new risks to urban centres in the future?

  • What is the adaptation potential for megacities to the
    “new” hazards?

  • Adaptation options for some societal groups may increase
the vulnerability of others. What are the equity dimensions
of adaptation in urban areas? Are there other trade-offs?

  • Can cities be seen as ‘laboratories’ for sustainable
adaptation options given past experiences in coping with
a variety of challenges (demography, economy, etc.)
    simultaneously?

  • Responses to climate change have to occur simultaneously
at multiple scales, from global to local and across different
time scales. Is there a key role for urban areas in this
    respect?
